Morocco’s textile sector expands as Valerius opens $10.27 million factory in Salé

Valerius Morocco has inaugurated a new textile manufacturing plant in Salé, marking a strategic expansion in Morocco’s fast-fashion ecosystem. The facility, launched in the presence of His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s Minister of Industry and Commerce Ryad Mezzour, represents a $10.27 million investment and is expected to create 1,640 direct and indirect jobs.

This factory is the result of an investment agreement signed in July 2021 between Valerius Morocco and the Moroccan government, under the Industrial Development and Investment Fund. The plant supports Morocco’s goal of becoming a key hub for textile manufacturing in the Mediterranean and Atlantic regions.

At the inauguration, Minister Mezzour underscored the economic weight of the textile sector, citing 227,460 jobs and $4.59 billion in exports. He described the industry as a “strategic pillar” of Morocco’s industrial framework and emphasized the importance of aligning with foreign partners.

In 2023, during a visit to Lisbon, Morocco and Portuguese group Valerius Texteis signed a $100 million agreement to launch a textile recycling project. That initiative alone is projected to add another 1,500 jobs.

Portugal’s textile industry, affected by rising costs and operational pressures, is increasingly viewing Morocco as a competitive and proximate base. Mezzour described Morocco as an “ideal partner” for Portuguese companies seeking co-production frameworks and regional supply chain resilience.

Valerius Morocco’s general manager, Hammani Amahzoune, highlighted the operational strengths of the new facility. The company has invested in high-performance European and American machinery, enabling it to meet the quality standards of international buyers. He noted that major brands from the United States and Europe are already showing interest.

The facility will focus on producing women’s and children’s clothing. By incorporating creativity and design into the production process, Valerius Morocco aims to increase its value-added exports and strengthen Morocco’s global textile footprint.

Amahzoune emphasized continuous skills development as a competitive advantage. The company plans to provide regular training for its workforce to meet the evolving demands of the global fashion market.

Valerius Morocco is a joint venture between Moroccan company SG3H and the Portuguese Valerius Group. Their partnership brings together design, research and development, marketing, and production under one industrial model.

Minister Mezzour concluded by stressing the ecological ambitions of the sector. He expects future collaborations to focus on recycled fibers and environmentally friendly dyeing processes, aligning with global sustainability goals and reducing the industry’s carbon footprint.
