Cosumar invests in liquid food-grade CO₂ production unit in Casablanca
Moroccan agro-industrial group Cosumar has announced a major investment to develop a new production unit for liquid food-grade carbon dioxide in Casablanca. The project represents a strategic step toward industrial diversification and local production of a resource previously imported.
The new facility will focus on capturing and transforming carbon dioxide generated during industrial processes. Through advanced purification techniques, the plant is expected to produce high-purity liquid CO₂ suitable for food and industrial applications, meeting international quality and safety standards.
This initiative is part of Cosumar’s broader strategy to enhance value creation by optimizing existing industrial outputs. By converting by-products into commercially viable resources, the company aims to strengthen its position in emerging industrial segments.
The liquid CO₂ produced will serve a wide range of sectors, including food and beverage manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, cryogenics, and water treatment. These industries rely on high-quality CO₂ for various technical and production processes.
The unit, integrated into the company’s Casablanca refinery, is expected to begin operations by the end of 2026, with an initial production capacity estimated at 20,000 tonnes per year. The project reflects a growing trend toward sustainable industrial practices and resource efficiency.
