Minelli footwear brand enters judicial reorganization again

French footwear and leather goods brand Minelli has once again been placed under judicial reorganization, two and a half years after a similar procedure led to the brand’s previous rescue, according to a court document obtained by AFP on April 6. The company had been under a safeguard procedure since September 2023, converted into judicial reorganization in March by the Paris Economic Court, indicating that Minelli is now in a state of insolvency.

Founded in 1973 and primarily focused on women’s shoes and accessories, Minelli was initially saved in 2024 by three investors, including the fashion brand “Mes Demoiselles Paris,” who incorporated it into a new entity, Maison Minelli. Despite the rescue, the company has struggled, posting a loss of €3.7 million in the 2024-2025 fiscal year.

According to the prior safeguard ruling, about ten stores taken over by the new owners remain unprofitable. The 2024 rescue came at the cost of many jobs, with the workforce reduced to fewer than 200 employees from around 600 prior to the takeover.

Minelli is part of a broader trend of French fashion and accessory brands facing judicial reorganization in recent years, including Claire’s, Jennyfer, Okaïdi, and IKKS, many of which are challenged by low-cost Asian competitors like Shein.
