Trump’s approval rating hits historic low as he nears 100 days in office

As Donald Trump approaches the 100th day of his second term, several polls indicate a significant decline in his popularity, marking the lowest approval ratings for any U.S. president at this stage of their presidency. According to a recent survey by SSRS for CNN, Trump's approval stands at a mere 41%, the lowest recorded since at least Dwight Eisenhower’s administration.

This figure reflects a drop of four points since March and seven points since late February. Only 22% of respondents fully support Trump's handling of the presidency, while 19% approve moderately. In contrast, a substantial 45% express strong disapproval, with an additional 14% indicating moderate disapproval.

A seismic shift in public sentiment

Another poll conducted by Ipsos for ABC News and the Washington Post corroborates these findings, revealing a disapproval rate of 55% regarding Trump's presidential management. Just 39% of participants approve of his second-term initiation. The Washington Post highlights that Trump's popularity is lower than that of all prior presidents after their first 100 days, even falling below his initial term, where he enjoyed a 42% approval rating at a similar point.

The first 100 days of Trump's presidency have sparked considerable upheaval within the United States. His administration has enacted a series of controversial policies, including tariffs, the expulsion of migrants, withdrawal from the Paris Agreement and the World Health Organization, budget cuts, and attacks on educational institutions.

Misaligned priorities for the American populace

Despite these aggressive policies, a majority of Americans remain unconvinced. A survey by the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago for the Associated Press reveals that only 24% believe Trump is focusing on the right priorities, while 44% feel he is addressing the wrong issues. Among Republicans, 54% approve of his priorities, though 26% remain undecided, and 13% disapprove.

This public discontent has manifested in protests across the nation. On April 19, thousands marched in New York and other major cities during a second wave of anti-Trump mobilization within two weeks. As Trump prepares to conclude his initial 100 days in office, he shows no signs of retreating from his controversial measures or provocative statements. "A second term is really more powerful," he asserted earlier in April.
