Beyoncé takes full control of SirDavis whisky after buying out LVMH stake
Beyoncé has taken full ownership of her SirDavis whisky brand after buying out the stake previously held by LVMH's Moët Hennessy division, bringing an end to a partnership that began when the spirit was launched in 2024.
The move gives the American singer complete control over a whisky project created as a tribute to her family history and developed with expertise from one of the world's leading spirits groups.
From family tribute to global whisky brand
SirDavis was conceived as a tribute to Davis Hogue, Beyoncé's great-grandfather, who was a farmer and bootlegger in the southern United States during Prohibition.
The project combined the artist's personal connection to whisky with an ambition to establish a premium spirits brand with an international profile.
Beyoncé partnered with Moët Hennessy to develop the whisky, bringing together the singer's vision and the group's experience in luxury spirits.
The collaboration also involved Bill Lumsden, the creative director behind the whiskies of Glenmorangie and Ardbeg, two Scottish distilleries belonging to the LVMH group.
A whisky blending American and Scottish influences
SirDavis was designed around a blend intended to combine characteristics associated with different whisky traditions.
The spirit is distilled in Indiana using a recipe containing 51% rye and 49% malted barley. The rye gives the whisky a distinctly American profile, while the malted barley introduces an influence associated with Scottish whisky-making.
The base spirit is produced by MGP, a major American producer of distilled spirits.
Lumsden previously explained that the project was intended to combine American whisky with elements inspired by Scotland and Japan, creating a style that would reflect Beyoncé's international ambitions for the brand.
A significant project for Moët Hennessy
SirDavis also represented an important experiment for Moët Hennessy.
Unlike many brands in the group's portfolio, the whisky was not acquired from an established producer. It was developed internally from the outset, making it the company's first spirits brand built entirely within the group rather than obtained through an acquisition.
The partnership with Beyoncé therefore gave Moët Hennessy an opportunity to participate in the creation of a new celebrity-led spirits brand while applying its expertise in whisky production and luxury marketing.
Beyoncé enters a new phase with SirDavis
The transfer of full ownership marks a new stage for SirDavis, with Beyoncé now assuming complete control of the brand she helped create.
The whisky's identity remains closely linked to the singer's personal story, combining family heritage with a contemporary approach to American spirits.
For the brand, the change also means moving forward without its original corporate partner. The next phase will test whether SirDavis can continue to build its presence in the increasingly competitive premium spirits market under Beyoncé's sole ownership.
