Thailand school shooting death toll rises to nine after 12-year-old girl dies

The death toll from a school shooting in Thailand rose to nine on Saturday after a 12-year-old girl injured in the attack died, police said.

The girl had been caught up in the shooting at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Nonthaburi Province on Friday. Her death adds to the number of victims killed in an incident that has shocked the local community and drawn renewed attention to school safety.

Death toll rises following Friday’s attack

Police at Plai Bang Police Station in Nonthaburi Province confirmed the girl's death to Reuters on Saturday, one day after the shooting.

According to police, the incident began when a 14-year-old boy allegedly shot his grandparents before going to his school, where five additional people were killed. The teenager subsequently died after turning the weapon on himself.

Authorities have continued working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the violence.

Community mourns victims

The latest death has deepened the grief among families connected to the school and the wider community in Nonthaburi.

Images from Bangkok on Saturday showed relatives receiving the body of a teacher who was among those killed, as families confronted the aftermath of the attack.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek to clarify the sequence of events and the circumstances that preceded the shooting.

Concerns over school safety

The incident has renewed concerns about the safety of educational institutions in Thailand, particularly following an attack involving a teenage student.

With the death toll now at nine, including the latest child victim, the focus is expected to remain on the investigation and on measures aimed at preventing similar incidents.
