Val-de-Marne burglary suspect seriously injured after falling from third floor while fleeing police
A suspected burglar was seriously injured after falling from a third-floor window while allegedly attempting to escape police officers in Saint-Mandé, Val-de-Marne, on Friday.
The incident occurred shortly before midday after officers went to an apartment building following reports of suspicious noises, according to the Créteil prosecutor’s office.
Suspect falls while attempting to flee
Police officers had reportedly reached the third floor of the building and knocked on the door when a noise was heard coming from the interior courtyard.
An unidentified man had apparently fallen from a window while attempting to escape. The fall was estimated at around 10 metres.
Police sources said the man suffered serious injuries and was taken into emergency care.
Suspected safe burglary
According to the information provided to investigators, the man allegedly attempted to break into a safe using an angle grinder.
The suspicious noises reported to police may have been connected to the attempted burglary, although the precise circumstances of the incident remain under investigation.
The suspect was seriously injured in the fall and was transported to Henri Mondor Hospital in Créteil in critical condition.
Life-threatening injuries
Emergency medical teams treated the man at the scene before transferring him to hospital under an emergency classification.
His injuries included serious trauma to the head and groin area, according to a police source cited in the report. His condition was considered life-threatening.
The circumstances surrounding the suspected burglary and the attempted escape are now being investigated.
