Huawei's Green Antenna Series Wins Best Mobile Network Infrastructure Award at MWC Barcelona 2024

Huawei's series of green antennas has been awarded the Best Mobile Network Infrastructure prize by GSMA Global Mobile (GLOMO) at MWC Barcelona 2024. This recognition highlights Huawei's advances in efficiency, performance, and integration of base station antennas. Huawei's green antennas have enabled operators worldwide to simplify 5G construction while maximizing energy efficiency and connections, supporting the future evolution of networks.

The green antenna series includes the Eco Antenna, the Hertz Antenna, the BladeAAU antennas, and the X2 Antenna, all featuring technological innovations and processes to reduce network energy consumption and deployment costs.

Huawei's exclusive technologies, SDIF and Meta Lens, which reduce energy losses and enhance network performance, increase antenna efficiency by over 25%. The FreSIP and foldable array technologies enable increased integration of antenna modules, helping to reduce the number of network equipment boxes needed on towers. Lastly, the revolutionary laser welding technology helps reduce environmental impact by avoiding water consumption and air pollution during antenna manufacturing.

Huawei's green antennas have currently been deployed in over 75 countries and are recognized as the preferred choice for building green and efficient networks among global operators. Green antennas require lower transmission power than traditional antennas to achieve the same coverage, helping operators save energy from base stations. Live network tests have shown that base station energy consumption with green antennas can be reduced by 26% during peak hours without compromising performance or coverage. This translates to savings of $900 per site per year. Reduced carbon emissions effectively facilitate the sustainable development of green mobile networks. With over 250,000 green antennas deployed worldwide, up to 90,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions can be avoided, which would otherwise require 65 million square meters of forests to absorb. Green antennas also support duplicated configurations while maintaining the same antenna size, meaning new frequency bands can be deployed without requiring additional antennas. In multi-operator sharing scenarios, the number of required antennas is halved, helping operators accelerate network deployment at lower costs.

Sun Youwei, president of Huawei's antenna business unit, said, "We are very grateful to receive this important award from GSMA. Increased spectrum and energy usage are crucial for all operators wishing to provide an optimal network experience. By improving antenna energy efficiency and device integration, Huawei's green antennas can enhance energy savings, network coverage, and user experience. Huawei is pleased to work with our industry partners to develop and apply green antennas in more frequency bands and application scenarios."

With the commercial launch of 5.5G in 2024, Huawei is collaborating with operators and partners worldwide to continue new exciting innovations in networks, cloud, and intelligence. Together, we will drive 5G businesses and foster a thriving industrial ecosystem, creating a new era for intelligent digital transformation.
