JBS and Indonesian sovereign wealth fund launch $2.5 billion protein investment venture
Brazilian food giant JBS is expanding its presence across the Asia-Pacific region through a major strategic partnership with PT Danantara (DIM), an investment arm of Indonesia's sovereign wealth fund, in a deal designed to accelerate protein production and strengthen regional food supply chains.
The agreement establishes a joint venture backed by a $2.5 billion investment from the Indonesian fund, positioning both partners to pursue growth opportunities across Indonesia, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
Platform for regional expansion
According to JBS, the new venture will serve as a dedicated investment platform focused on expanding protein production and processing throughout some of the world's fastest-growing food markets.
As part of the transaction, JBS will contribute its existing operations in Australia and New Zealand to the newly created company, giving the partnership an established industrial base while providing a foundation for future expansion across the wider region.
Indonesia strengthens food investment strategy
The investment highlights Indonesia's broader ambition to deploy sovereign capital into strategic sectors that support long-term economic development and food security.
By partnering with one of the world's largest meat producers, the Indonesian wealth fund gains access to JBS's international expertise, production capabilities and established market presence, while JBS secures additional financial backing to pursue expansion opportunities in high-growth markets.
Growing demand drives investment
Rising incomes, population growth and changing dietary preferences continue to increase demand for animal protein across Southeast Asia, making the region an attractive destination for long-term investment.
The joint venture is expected to explore opportunities throughout the protein value chain, leveraging JBS's operational experience alongside Indonesia's investment resources to strengthen production capacity and regional supply networks.
The announcement reinforces JBS's international growth strategy while illustrating how sovereign wealth funds are increasingly partnering with global agribusiness companies to secure food production assets and support future agricultural development.
