Grocery inflation in the United Kingdom has slowed in recent weeks, reaching its lowest pace since late 2024, according to market data from industry researchers. The moderation in price increases comes despite ongoing geopolitical tensions linked to the Iran conflict, which analysts say have not yet fully affected supermarket prices.

The latest figures indicate that food price inflation has eased to around 3.1% over a recent four-week period, down from higher levels recorded in previous months. At the same time, overall grocery sales rose slightly year-on-year, suggesting that consumers are still purchasing essential goods but remain cautious with spending.

Retail analysts note that the current situation reflects a gradual stabilisation in supply chains and energy costs, even as global uncertainty persists. Experts also warn that any escalation in international conflicts could still influence future food prices in Europe.

Competition among major supermarket chains remains strong. Tesco and Sainsbury's continue to hold significant market positions, while discount retailer Lidl has recently expanded its market share, overtaking some traditional competitors such as Morrisons.

The UK retail sector is also influenced by broader economic pressures, including inflation trends, household budgets, and government policy discussions aimed at easing the cost-of-living burden.
