Casablanca-Settat Steps Up Drainage Network Maintenance Ahead of Rainy Season
Preparations for the rainy season are gathering pace across Morocco’s Casablanca-Settat region, where the Regional Multi-Service Company is intensifying maintenance of wastewater and drainage infrastructure to limit the risk of flooding during periods of heavy rainfall.
The campaign focuses on keeping drainage systems operational by removing accumulated sediment, clearing pipelines and cleaning sanitation infrastructure. Particular attention is being directed towards vulnerable locations where inadequate water evacuation could lead to flooding when rainfall becomes intense.
Although maintenance operations continue throughout the year under a preventive programme, the company is increasing the frequency of interventions ahead of the wet season. The objective is to preserve the network’s capacity to carry water away efficiently and reduce pressure on infrastructure during severe weather.
Targeted Operations to Reduce Flood Risks
The maintenance programme centres on identifying and clearing obstructions that could compromise the flow of water through drainage systems. Sediment deposits and other accumulated materials can restrict the capacity of pipes and drainage structures, making regular cleaning an important part of flood prevention.
By concentrating efforts on sensitive areas, the company aims to address potential weaknesses before heavy rainfall puts the infrastructure under greater strain.
These measures form part of a broader preventive approach designed to reduce weather-related disruption and improve the reliability of drainage services across the region.
Additional Staff and Equipment Mobilised
To support the intensified campaign, the Regional Multi-Service Company plans to deploy additional personnel and technical resources. The operations are also being coordinated with local authorities to facilitate interventions and address the needs of exposed areas.
This coordination is particularly important when maintenance work involves several locations and requires the efficient deployment of equipment and specialised teams.
The increased mobilisation is intended to help ensure that drainage infrastructure is prepared for the demands of the rainy season, when large volumes of water can place considerable pressure on existing systems.
Seasonal Preparedness Remains a Regional Challenge
Managing rainwater is a significant concern for Casablanca-Settat, where the ability to evacuate precipitation efficiently is essential to protecting vulnerable neighbourhoods and maintaining the continuity of public services.
While preventive cleaning can improve drainage performance, the effectiveness of flood-risk reduction also depends on infrastructure capacity, regular monitoring and the timely identification of sensitive points.
As the rainy season approaches, the intensified maintenance campaign represents an effort to reduce the likelihood of water accumulation and limit the consequences of severe weather. Its impact will depend in part on the condition of the networks and the intensity of rainfall during the coming months.
