GigaLab Appoints Mohammed Aiouche as Deputy General Manager to Accelerate African Expansion
Moroccan medical diagnostics manufacturer GigaLab Group has appointed Mohammed Aiouche as deputy general manager, bringing more than three decades of industry experience to the company as it prepares to scale up production, strengthen its commercial operations and expand its presence across Africa and international markets.
The appointment comes as demand for accessible diagnostic technologies continues to create opportunities for manufacturers seeking to combine local production with broader distribution networks. For GigaLab, Aiouche’s experience in medical devices, diagnostic testing and business management is expected to support its next phase of development.
An experienced executive joins GigaLab’s leadership
Aiouche brings over 30 years of professional experience in the medical technology sector, including senior management responsibilities related to operational performance and business development.
His appointment comes at a strategic stage for GigaLab, which aims to increase manufacturing capacity while extending the reach of its diagnostic products beyond Morocco. The company operates in a market where reliable laboratory supplies, technical expertise and access to testing technologies are essential to healthcare providers.
Founded in 2007 by Dr Karim Zaher, GigaLab is headquartered in Casablanca and runs manufacturing facilities in Had Soualem and Bouskoura. Its business model combines the production of diagnostic products with the distribution, installation and maintenance of laboratory equipment supplied by international manufacturers.
A diversified portfolio of diagnostic technologies
GigaLab manufactures rapid diagnostic tests covering several medical fields, including infectious diseases, cardiovascular conditions, cancer and women's health. Its production activities also encompass chromogenic culture media, which support the identification of bacteria in laboratory settings, alongside consumables and optical equipment such as microscopes.
Beyond manufacturing, the company supplies automated laboratory analysers used in blood testing, clinical biochemistry, immunology, microbiology and autoimmune disease diagnostics.
Its services extend throughout the equipment lifecycle, including installation, calibration, maintenance, reagent supply and technical assistance. This integrated approach allows GigaLab to serve public hospitals, private laboratories and research institutions with both diagnostic products and operational support.
Moroccan manufacturing with an international footprint
GigaLab has established a position in Morocco's medical diagnostics industry through locally manufactured products and exports to international markets.
The company identifies itself as Africa's first manufacturer of rapid antigen diagnostic tests. It has also developed GLD HIV-1+2, which it describes as the first rapid HIV test designed and manufactured entirely in Morocco to receive official regulatory approval.
Its manufacturing credentials include the “Made in Morocco” label awarded by the Moroccan Institute for Standardization (IMANOR). The company also reports ISO 13485:2016 certification issued by Bureau Veritas, ISO 9001 certification and European CE marking.
These credentials form part of its quality and regulatory framework as it supplies diagnostic products to healthcare facilities in Morocco and export destinations across West Africa, Central Africa and the Middle East.
GigaLab says it has supplied millions of diagnostic tests to healthcare providers, reflecting the scale of its operations and the importance of its distribution network in serving markets beyond its domestic base.
Research and logistics underpin future growth
Alongside its expansion plans, GigaLab is investing in research and development, with a particular focus on multiplex rapid diagnostic tests. These technologies are designed to identify several pathogens from a single patient sample, potentially simplifying testing procedures and improving diagnostic efficiency.
The company also plans to establish distribution hubs across Africa to improve the availability of medical products. The proposed network is intended to serve healthcare facilities in major urban centres as well as clinics in rural communities, where access to diagnostic supplies can be more difficult.
Expanding such a network will require coordination between manufacturing, logistics and technical support to ensure that products reach healthcare providers reliably.
Aiouche's appointment therefore coincides with two closely connected priorities: increasing the company's production capabilities and building the infrastructure needed to distribute its products across a wider geographical area.
As GigaLab pursues these objectives, its ability to combine locally manufactured diagnostic technologies with research investment and regional distribution will be central to its ambitions in Africa's medical diagnostics market.
