UK court rules that calling a man “bald” amounts to sexual harassment
The UK Supreme Court has issued a landmark ruling, declaring that describing a man as “bald” can constitute sexual harassment in the workplace.
The case involved Tony Finn, a 64-year-old electrician who worked for a British company for 24 years before being dismissed in 2021. Finn reported that, in 2019, his supervisor insulted him by calling him a “bald bastard.”
The labor tribunal concluded that baldness is more prevalent among men, making the insult inherently linked to gender. As a result, the judges determined that such remarks cross the line into sexual harassment.
The ruling has sparked widespread debate in the UK, with some arguing it strengthens protections against workplace bullying, while others warn it risks trivializing the concept of harassment.
