Powerchip Semiconductor chairman Frank Huang dies, vice chairman appointed interim leader
Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) has announced the death of its Chairman, Frank Huang, marking a significant leadership transition for one of Taiwan's established semiconductor manufacturers.
According to a company filing released on Friday, Huang died at his home after suffering cardiopulmonary failure in his sleep. The announcement brings an end to the tenure of a veteran executive who played an influential role in Taiwan's semiconductor sector, an industry that remains central to the global technology supply chain.
To ensure continuity in corporate governance, PSMC confirmed that Vice Chairman Brian Shieh has been appointed acting chairman with immediate effect. The interim appointment is intended to provide leadership stability while the company manages the transition following Huang's passing.
The leadership change comes at a time when Taiwan's semiconductor industry continues to attract worldwide attention amid growing demand for advanced chips and increasing geopolitical interest in global semiconductor production. As one of the island's key chipmakers, PSMC has maintained a strategic position in supplying semiconductor manufacturing services across multiple technology markets.
Although the company did not provide additional details regarding future executive appointments or governance plans, investors and industry observers are expected to monitor the transition closely. Leadership continuity remains a critical factor for semiconductor manufacturers operating in an increasingly competitive and rapidly evolving global market.
PSMC has not announced further information regarding memorial arrangements or any changes to its business strategy following the loss of its chairman. The company emphasized that its executive management structure remains in place under the temporary leadership of Brian Shieh as operations continue without interruption.
