Tangier police seize 503 kilograms of cannabis resin at marina
Security authorities in Tangier have seized 503 kilograms of cannabis resin following an operation targeting suspected drug trafficking activities at the city’s marina. The intervention also led to the arrest of six individuals believed to be connected to an organized criminal network.
According to information reported by local media, officers assigned to the security unit responsible for the marina port carried out the operation on March 7 after detecting suspicious activity involving recreational boats docked at the harbor.
Investigators discovered that pleasure vessels moored at the marina were allegedly being used to conceal narcotics intended for transport outside Morocco.
Two separate smuggling attempts intercepted
During the first intervention, police officers stopped a leisure yacht and arrested four individuals on board. Initial findings suggested that the vessel was preparing to leave the port while carrying a shipment of drugs intended for international trafficking.
In a second operation conducted at the same port, security agents inspected another boat. After a detailed search, officers reportedly discovered hidden compartments specially designed for smuggling activities.
Inside these concealed spaces, authorities found approximately 327 kilograms of cannabis resin. During the same inspection, police seized an additional 176 kilograms of hashish and arrested two more suspects, including the owner of the boat.
Investigation into a possible trafficking network
All six suspects were placed under judicial supervision and presented before the competent authorities as part of an ongoing legal process. The investigation has been entrusted to the provincial service of the judicial police in Tangier.
Authorities are now working to determine whether the seized shipments were linked to a larger narcotics trafficking network. Investigators are also examining possible national and international connections that may have facilitated the attempted smuggling operations from the marina.
The case highlights the continued efforts of Moroccan security services to combat drug trafficking and strengthen monitoring of maritime routes used for illegal activities.
