The Spanish Congress is set to vote next Wednesday on a proposal aimed at regularizing the status of Moroccan migrants and addressing the legal challenges hindering their integration into Spanish society.

According to Spanish media, the left-wing party "Podemos" has presented the proposal, which seeks to accelerate the regularization process for undocumented migrants, estimated at around half a million people from various nationalities, including Moroccans.

The proposal calls for the Spanish government to approve, within a maximum of two months, the regularization of foreign nationals who face illegal administrative status and have been in Spain since before November 2021.

Podemos stated that voting in favor of this proposal is an "ethical, political, and democratic duty" and would bring significant international recognition to Spain. It would regularize the status of individuals currently in an illegal situation and create legal and safe pathways for those who wish to migrate without risking their lives in the process.

Furthermore, Podemos is opposed to proposals to deport minors to Morocco, viewing it as a dangerous shift that overlooks human rights and uses children as tools for controlling migration.

Statistics from Spain's Ministry of the Interior reveal that nearly 57,000 migrants have arrived in Spain during the first 11 months of 2024, surpassing the number of migrants who arrived in all of 2023. The report also indicates that between January 1 and November 30, 2024, 56,976 migrants arrived, representing a 12.7% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
