Deaths in Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk following Russian drone attacks
Two people were killed and two others injured in the southeastern Dnipro region of Ukraine after Russian drone strikes, local authorities reported. The attacks targeted Vasylkivka, a community near the front lines, causing fires, destruction of one home, damage to three others, and impacting several vehicles and power infrastructure.
Governor Oleksandr Hanzha confirmed the incidents on social media, noting that nearby Nikopol and surrounding communities were also subjected to drone and artillery fire overnight. The damage affected power lines and other essential infrastructure.
Nikopol sits on the Dnieper River, opposite the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, currently under Russian control since March 2022. These strikes occurred as peace talks were scheduled to resume in Abu Dhabi, with the United States acting as mediator.
The attacks underscore the ongoing risks to civilian areas close to the front lines and highlight the broader humanitarian and strategic challenges in southeastern Ukraine.
