US approves $3 billion f-15 maintenance services sale to Saudi Arabia
The United States has approved a potential $3 billion sale of maintenance and support services for F-15 fighter jets to Saudi Arabia, according to a statement released by the Pentagon on Tuesday.
The authorization, granted by the US State Department and formally notified to Congress, covers a range of non-major defense equipment and services, including spare parts, aircraft repairs, software support, and training for Saudi personnel.
US officials said the proposed sale is intended to support American foreign policy and national security objectives by strengthening the defense capabilities of a key regional ally. The Pentagon emphasized that the agreement would help Saudi Arabia deter current and future threats, while not altering the overall military balance in the Middle East.
The announcement comes shortly after Washington approved another major deal with Riyadh involving $9 billion worth of Patriot air defense missiles, underscoring continued defense cooperation between the two countries.
In parallel, the US administration has also cleared several arms transactions with Israel, totaling billions of dollars, including attack helicopters and military vehicles. These decisions take place amid renewed diplomatic discussions between Washington and Tehran, adding to the geopolitical sensitivity of recent arms approvals.
According to data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), Saudi Arabia spent approximately $80 billion on military expenditures in 2024, representing more than 20 percent of its gross domestic product.
