North Korean leader showcases new sniper rifles to officials
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has reportedly presented newly developed sniper rifles as ceremonial gifts to senior party and military officials, according to state-run media. The rifles, created by the country’s Academy of Defence Science, were described by Kim as “remarkable weapons” and symbols of trust.
The presentation took place at the headquarters of the Workers' Party of Korea, coinciding with preparations for the party’s Ninth Congress. Recipients included top members of the Central Military Commission, senior Korean People's Army commanders, and key party figures, including Kim’s sister, Kim Yo Jong, now identified as director of the General Affairs Department of the party’s Central Committee.
State media also released photographs showing Kim’s daughter, Kim Ju Ae, attending the ceremony and testing a rifle at a firing range, highlighting the younger generation’s exposure to military traditions. Analysts suggest the event underscores North Korea’s focus on both military advancement and family-centered leadership visibility.
