Morocco’s AYA industrial hub boosts food security and green development
A $48 million investment in sustainable industry
Morocco has inaugurated the AYA (Anouar Yieldest Additives) industrial project in Jorf Lasfar, a significant milestone in its strategy to enhance food sovereignty and agro-industrial development. The facility, backed by Anouar Invest with an investment of MAD 480 million ($48 million), spans 7.1 hectares and includes a covered area of 28,700 square meters across three levels. It is expected to create over 500 direct and indirect jobs.
Designed for sustainability, the plant features a water treatment unit compliant with international standards and operates at 14 MW of installed power, with 40% derived from renewable energy sources. This focus on green energy reduces the facility’s overall carbon footprint.
Bridging agriculture and industry
Ryad Mezzour, Morocco’s Minister of Industry and Trade, highlighted the project as a testament to the country’s industrialization progress and investor confidence. He noted its potential to establish an export-driven biotechnology sector while creating jobs and fostering regional development.
Morocco’s Minister of Agriculture, Ahmed El Bouari, emphasized the plant’s integration into the Green Generation Strategy, which aims to modernize agriculture. By utilizing molasses, a by-product of the sugar industry, the AYA plant merges agriculture with industry, generating employment, reducing waste, and reinforcing both food security and sustainable growth.
Strengthening exports and investment strategies
According to Karim Zidane, Minister Delegate for Investment, the project aligns with Morocco’s New Investment Charter and King Mohammed VI's vision for food and industrial sovereignty. It advances public policy objectives while contributing to inclusive economic growth.
Omar Hejira, Secretary of State for Foreign Trade, stated that the facility enhances Morocco's ability to create a competitive, globally integrated industry. As an export-oriented initiative, AYA strengthens the country’s presence in global value chains and elevates Moroccan expertise internationally.
