Morocco invests millions in advanced speed radars to curb road accidents

Morocco’s National Road Safety Agency (NARSA) has allocated tens of millions of dirhams to acquire state-of-the-art speed control radars, marking a significant step toward reducing traffic accidents and improving road safety. This investment reflects the government’s commitment to tackling one of the country's most pressing public health challenges.

Expanding road safety infrastructure

The newly acquired digital radars are equipped with advanced detection technologies, offering greater precision in speed monitoring. These systems are designed to support law enforcement in managing the increasing number of vehicles on Morocco's roads.

Speeding remains one of the leading causes of severe traffic accidents in the country. Authorities believe that enhanced monitoring through these modern devices will help address the alarming rise in road casualties.

Strategic nationwide deployment

The radars will be strategically deployed across critical sections of highways and accident-prone intersections in major urban areas. Roads with a high incidence of fatal crashes will receive priority as part of a phased roll-out plan aimed at ensuring regional equity and operational efficiency.

In addition to deterring reckless driving, this initiative seeks to foster a culture of compliance with traffic regulations, ultimately contributing to safer roads nationwide.

Part of a broader safety strategy

The radar deployment is a key element of Morocco’s national road safety strategy, which aims to significantly reduce traffic fatalities by 2026. This comprehensive plan also includes awareness campaigns, driver education programs, and improved road infrastructure.
