Dangerous high waves expected along parts of Morocco’s Atlantic coast
Severe marine weather conditions are expected to affect parts of Morocco’s Atlantic coastline, with dangerous waves forecast to reach significant heights over the coming hours.
Meteorological authorities report that an active low-pressure system over the North Atlantic is currently influencing the country’s coastal areas. This system is generating strong winds offshore, leading to the formation of very rough seas.
Wave heights are expected to range between 5 and 6.5 meters in exposed areas, particularly along the coastal stretch between Mehdia and Cap Ghir. These conditions are forecast to persist from Tuesday evening through early Wednesday morning.
Due to the intensity of the swell and the associated risks, the affected zone has been placed under a red-level alert. Officials warn that maritime navigation, port activities and coastal zones could be seriously impacted.
The situation may be further aggravated by the coincidence of high tides during this period. Elevated tide levels could intensify wave breaking, strengthen currents and increase the risk of localized coastal flooding, prompting authorities to urge heightened vigilance.
