Moroccan Craftsmanship Shines at SMAP IMMO fair in Brussels

Brussels hosted the 10th edition of the Moroccan real estate fair SMAP IMMO from March 27 to 29, featuring a dedicated showcase of Morocco’s rich artisanal heritage. For the first time in the exhibition’s history, a 300 m² “Craftsmanship Village” highlighted the skills of 16 Moroccan artisans from diverse regions and crafts, offering visitors an immersive experience of authentic Moroccan artistry.

Organized by the State Secretariat for Crafts and the Social and Solidarity Economy in partnership with the Federation of Artisan Chambers, the initiative aims to promote Moroccan crafts as a fundamental pillar of the nation’s cultural identity and to strengthen their international presence.

The “Craftsmanship Village” displayed a wide range of artisanal activities, including carpets, furniture, decoration, zellige, pottery, ceramics, metalwork, woodworking, embroidery, leather goods, traditional clothing, jewelry, and local products. Cultural performances and folklore shows enriched the experience, allowing visitors to engage with Morocco’s living heritage.

The inauguration was attended by Morocco’s Ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg, Mohamed Ameur, Moha Er-Rich, Director of Heritage Preservation and Innovation at the State Secretariat, Cheggaf Sidati, President of the Federation of Artisan Chambers, and regional representatives from Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, Oriental, Draa-Tafilalet, Guelmim-Oued Noun, and Béni Mellal-Khénifra.

Organizers emphasized that the event not only promotes artisan products but also strengthens cultural ties between Moroccan communities in Belgium and their homeland, offering young generations a deeper understanding of Morocco’s intangible heritage.
