Iran’s Revolutionary Guards target “Separatist Groups” in northern Iraq

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has reportedly carried out strikes against what it describes as “separatist groups” in northern Iraq, according to Iranian state media. The operations targeted bases in the border region, although the exact locations and groups involved have not been officially identified.

Authorities in Iran stated that the ground forces conducted the attack as part of ongoing efforts to counter threats they associate with armed opposition movements operating near the Iraqi Kurdistan region. No independent confirmation of the extent of the damage or casualties has yet been provided.

This is not the first time Iranian forces have targeted positions in northern Iraq. In recent years, the IRGC has repeatedly launched cross-border operations against groups it accuses of destabilizing Iran from Iraqi territory, particularly in the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region.
