British Foreign Secretary set to visit China
British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper is expected to begin a three-day official visit to China, where she will take part in the 11th China–UK Strategic Dialogue. The visit, confirmed by China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is scheduled to last until June 3 and comes at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
This diplomatic trip follows recent efforts by both countries to strengthen communication channels amid a complex global political and economic environment. It also comes shortly after a high-level visit by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to China earlier in the year, marking an important step in re-engaging bilateral relations.
Analysts note that the visit reflects the United Kingdom’s intention to maintain open dialogue with major global powers, particularly China, while continuing to build on agreements reached during previous high-level meetings.
The United Kingdom was among the first Western countries to recognize China in 1950. Over the years, the two nations have developed a structured diplomatic framework, including regular strategic and economic dialogues aimed at supporting cooperation.
Trade between the two countries remains significant, reaching tens of billions of dollars annually. Both sides continue to emphasize the importance of maintaining stable economic and political relations despite global uncertainties.
