Polish lawyer arrested over fake threats targeting president
A Polish lawyer has been arrested in Warsaw on suspicion of sending false warnings about alleged planned attacks against the country’s president and foreign minister. Authorities say the case involves fabricated communications, illegally obtained documents, and the possession of weapons and ammunition.
According to Poland’s Interior Ministry, the 48-year-old suspect is accused of impersonating former senior officials in letters sent to state institutions. These messages reportedly claimed that preparations were underway to target President Karol Nawrocki and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski.
Investigators believe the suspect attempted to make the threats appear credible by attaching falsified documents and other materials obtained unlawfully. In one instance, ammunition was allegedly included in correspondence sent to authorities.
Police detained the suspect after entering his apartment in Warsaw, where they discovered laptops, mobile phones, USB devices, official badges, weapons, and ammunition. Authorities also seized identity documents belonging to other individuals, including passports and residence permits.
A search of the suspect’s vehicle reportedly uncovered additional ammunition as well as several artillery shells.
The individual, whose identity has not been publicly disclosed, faces multiple charges, including illegal possession of weapons and falsification of documents. If convicted, he could face up to eight years in prison. A court has ordered three months of pre-trial detention while the investigation continues.
