Israel seizes Beaufort Fortress in Southern Lebanon offensive
Israeli forces have announced the capture of the historic Beaufort Fortress in southern Lebanon, describing it as a significant development in their ongoing military operations in the region. The site, a medieval stronghold dating back to the Crusader era, overlooks strategic areas in both southern Lebanon and northern Israel.
According to Israeli authorities, the seizure of the fortress represents a major turning point in efforts to expand control over areas previously associated with Hezbollah activity. Officials stated that operations will continue in order to secure additional strategic positions in the south of Lebanon.
The advance comes amid intensified fighting in the region, with widespread displacement reported on both sides of the border. Lebanese authorities estimate that thousands of people have been killed and more than a million displaced since the escalation of hostilities earlier in the year.
International reactions have included calls for de-escalation. France has requested an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council, urging an end to what it describes as expanding military operations in Lebanese territory.
Meanwhile, residents from southern Lebanese towns such as Nabatiyeh have reported heavy destruction and ongoing insecurity, with many unable to return to their homes. Humanitarian conditions continue to worsen as military activity spreads further north of the border.
Israeli officials maintain that operations aim to neutralize security threats, while Lebanon continues to warn of the risks of a wider regional escalation.
