JSW Cement reports sharp rise in quarterly profit as demand improves
Indian cement manufacturer JSW Cement reported a significant increase in quarterly profit, supported by stronger market demand and improved activity in the country’s construction sector.
The company announced that its consolidated net profit for the quarter ending March 31 rose sharply compared with the same period last year. The strong performance was mainly driven by increased cement demand across infrastructure and real estate projects in India.
Industry analysts noted that cement consumption in India accelerated during the first months of the year due to continued economic growth and higher construction activity. Demand remained particularly strong in January and February before slowing slightly in March.
Government measures also contributed to the sector’s positive performance. A reduction in taxes on cement bags helped improve affordability and supported sales across the market. Experts believe the tax adjustment encouraged both public and private construction projects.
The fourth quarter is traditionally one of the strongest periods for Indian cement producers because weather conditions are more favorable for construction work before the arrival of the monsoon season. Companies also tend to increase activity to meet annual financial targets before the end of the fiscal year.
JSW Cement’s latest results reflect broader optimism in India’s infrastructure and housing sectors, which continue to benefit from rising investments and urban development projects. Analysts expect cement demand to remain relatively stable if government spending on roads, housing, and industrial projects continues in the coming months.
The company’s performance also highlights the resilience of India’s manufacturing and construction industries despite global economic uncertainty and fluctuating raw material costs.
