Neymar announces end of international career with Brazil

Brazilian football star Neymar has announced his decision to end his international career, bringing an end to a remarkable chapter with the national team. The forward, who became Brazil's all-time leading scorer, leaves behind a career marked by outstanding individual achievements, major international tournaments and a lasting impact on the Seleção.

According to TNT Sports, the 34-year-old forward confirmed that he no longer intends to represent Brazil after years of wearing the famous yellow shirt. Neymar said he was proud of his contribution to the national team and believed he had secured his place in the country's football history.

His final appearance for Brazil came against Norway in the last 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Brazil suffered a 2-1 defeat and were eliminated from the competition, with Neymar scoring his team's only goal. The result brought an emotional conclusion to his international journey.

Neymar made 130 appearances for Brazil and scored 80 goals, establishing himself as the country's top scorer. His international career included appearances at several major tournaments and a number of memorable performances that cemented his status as one of the most influential Brazilian players of his generation.

At club level, Neymar began his professional career at Santos before moving to Europe, where he played for Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. He later joined Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal before returning to Santos, the team where he first made his name as a young talent.

His decision to retire from international football comes as he continues his club career in Brazil. Despite facing injuries and various challenges in recent years, Neymar remains one of the most recognizable figures in world football.

The end of his international career also closes a chapter in Brazil's recent football history. While Neymar achieved individual records and became a global superstar, he was unable to lead the national team to a FIFA World Cup title, one of the major ambitions of his career.

Neymar's departure leaves Brazil without one of its most celebrated players of the modern era. His goals, creativity and distinctive playing style have made him a central figure in the country's football story, ensuring that his legacy with the Seleção will remain significant for years to come.
