France’s growth outlook improves as central bank raises 2025 forecast

France’s economic prospects for 2025 appear stronger than previously expected, as the country’s central bank has revised its growth forecast upward. Despite a challenging political and budgetary environment, the institution now anticipates a moderate but resilient expansion of the French economy.

The revised projection points to growth of just under one percent in 2025, slightly below the pace recorded in 2024 but higher than earlier estimates. According to the central bank, recent economic shocks have had a more limited impact than initially feared, allowing activity to hold up better over the year.

Inflation is also expected to slow significantly in 2025, reflecting easing price pressures compared with the previous year. This trend could help support household purchasing power, even as uncertainty surrounding public finances and fiscal policy continues to weigh on confidence.

The forecast is being released at a time of political uncertainty, as lawmakers debate the adoption of a national budget. In this context, the central bank stressed that external demand, particularly exports, has contributed positively to economic performance, while sectors such as aeronautics have played a key role in supporting growth.

Looking ahead to 2026, the institution expects economic momentum to benefit from a recovery in household consumption and private investment, although risks linked to international trade tensions and fiscal constraints remain.
