Tanger Med concludes Morocco’s Marhaba 2026 operation as final travelers depart
Tanger Med port has completed the 2026 edition of Morocco’s Marhaba operation, as the final travelers left the country aboard ferries bound for ports across the northern Mediterranean. The conclusion on Tuesday marked the end of several weeks of intensive preparations aimed at facilitating the return journeys of Moroccans living abroad.
The operation, launched on June 10 under the effective supervision of King Mohammed VI, brought together a wide range of public and private stakeholders to manage passenger flows and provide assistance throughout the travel process.
Tanger Med, one of the main maritime gateways connecting Morocco with Europe, implemented dedicated arrangements to guide travelers through the various stages of their departure. Support began as passengers reached the port entrance and continued through the different processing areas until they boarded their vessels.
Information and orientation systems were deployed across the port to help passengers navigate the facilities and complete the necessary procedures. The measures were designed to reduce confusion during periods of high traffic and ensure that travelers could reach their ships efficiently.
Medical assistance was also an important component of the operation. The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, which oversees Marhaba, provided healthcare and medical support for passengers requiring assistance during their journey through the port.
As the operation entered its final phase, passengers gradually boarded ferries heading toward Mediterranean ports in Europe. Coordination between the different services involved in the operation was maintained to facilitate departures and provide travelers with appropriate support until they left Moroccan territory.
Several passengers interviewed by Morocco’s official news agency expressed satisfaction with their stay in Morocco and with the arrangements made for their departure. Some described spending several weeks with relatives and family members before returning to their countries of residence.
Other travelers highlighted the organization of the boarding process, particularly the availability of clear instructions and continuous guidance inside the port. According to their accounts, these measures helped make the final stage of their journey more straightforward.
Marhaba is organized each year to accompany the large number of Moroccans living abroad who travel to and from Morocco during the summer period. The operation involves coordination between transport operators, port authorities, security services, healthcare providers and social assistance organizations.
The 2026 edition once again placed particular emphasis on passenger orientation, medical assistance and coordination at major crossing points. These measures are especially important during the peak summer travel period, when maritime connections between Morocco and Europe experience substantial demand.
With the departure of the final passengers from Tanger Med, the 2026 operation has now formally come to an end. The conclusion marks the completion of a major seasonal effort designed to support Morocco’s diaspora during their annual journeys between their countries of residence and their homeland.
