Morocco and Italy deepen healthtech cooperation through LAB Innova 2026

The health technology sector is emerging as a new area of cooperation between Morocco and Italy, with companies, startups and research stakeholders exploring ways to turn technological expertise into practical healthcare projects.

The third edition of LAB Innova Morocco, dedicated to Open Innovation Health Tech Morocco 2026, brought four Italian healthtech companies into direct discussions with Moroccan startups, businesses and innovation stakeholders. The initiative is designed to move beyond conventional business networking by identifying concrete opportunities for joint development, technology demonstrations and pilot projects.

Organised by Technopark Casablanca in cooperation with the Italian Trade Agency (ITA), the programme seeks to connect two innovation ecosystems and create commercial and technological links between Italian medical technologies and Morocco's growing entrepreneurial base.

Italian healthtech meets Moroccan innovation

The B2B programme brought together companies working across several areas of healthcare technology.

Participants included Cambridge Raman Imaging, D-Heart, GreenBone Ortho and Hospitex International, alongside Interdata, whose technological solutions also target the healthcare sector.

Their areas of expertise reflect the increasingly broad definition of healthtech, spanning medical imaging, connected diagnostics, regenerative medicine, medical devices and digital technologies.

Cambridge Raman Imaging focuses on Raman imaging and analysis technologies for life-science applications. D-Heart, meanwhile, develops portable and connected electrocardiography solutions designed to support remote cardiac monitoring.

GreenBone Ortho operates in bone regeneration, with biomimetic bone substitutes among its areas of activity. Hospitex International specialises in medical technologies and devices, including solutions connected to oncology. Interdata adds a digital and technological dimension to the group through solutions designed for healthcare environments.

The diversity of these companies illustrates the range of technologies being explored through the Moroccan-Italian innovation channel.

From business meetings to proof of concept

The objective of the B2B sessions is not limited to establishing commercial contacts.

Italian companies arrived with specific technological requirements and development challenges, while Moroccan startups and innovation actors were given an opportunity to present capabilities that could potentially address those needs.

The next stage could involve proof-of-concept projects, technology demonstrations and pilot applications. Such projects can provide a practical way for companies to test whether a technical partnership can translate into a commercially viable solution.

This model also creates opportunities for different forms of cooperation, including joint development, technology transfer, industrial partnerships, experimentation and access to new markets.

Lombardy brings a wider life-sciences network

The initiative also involves BION – Cluster Lombardo Scienze della Vita, connecting the Moroccan participants with the broader life-sciences ecosystem of Lombardy.

The region brings together companies and organisations operating across pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and medical technology. Its participation therefore adds an additional layer to the programme beyond the individual companies involved in the B2B meetings.

For Moroccan entrepreneurs, this creates potential access to a wider network of Italian businesses, researchers and specialised organisations.

The objective is to create connections that can continue after the initial meetings rather than ending when the B2B sessions conclude.

Casablanca becomes a testing ground for collaboration

The choice of Casablanca as the Moroccan stage of LAB Innova reflects the city's position within the country's technology and entrepreneurship ecosystem.

By bringing international companies directly into contact with Moroccan startups and innovation stakeholders, the programme creates an environment in which market requirements and technological capabilities can be compared at an early stage.

Five Moroccan startups to continue the dialogue in Rome

The international component of LAB Innova will continue in October, when five Moroccan startups selected from the approximately 15 companies participating in the programme will have the opportunity to attend a technology-focused event in Rome.

The Italian stage is intended to extend the relationships established in Casablanca and provide the selected startups with additional exposure to Italy's innovation ecosystem.

For these companies, the move from Casablanca to Rome represents a shift from local matchmaking towards international market development. It can also provide access to potential partners, investors, technology specialists and business networks beyond Morocco.

The programme consequently creates a two-way channel: Italian companies can explore Moroccan opportunities, while Moroccan startups gain a route into an established European innovation ecosystem.

Healthtech becomes a new dimension of bilateral cooperation

The latest LAB Innova edition illustrates how economic cooperation between Morocco and Italy is expanding into technology-intensive sectors.
