El Jadida Horse Show highlights Morocco’s equestrian heritage through four major competitions
The 17th edition of the El Jadida Horse Show is placing Morocco’s equestrian heritage at the center of an international showcase, with four major competitions designed to spotlight breeding quality, bloodlines and the distinctive characteristics of the country’s leading horse breeds.
Held in El Jadida, the annual event brings together breeders, riders, specialists and international professionals, creating a platform where Morocco’s long-standing horse culture meets contemporary breeding and competition standards.
Arabian breeding takes center stage
One of the key events is the Moroccan Breeders’ Cup for Purebred Arabian Horses, organized with the Royal Moroccan Society for the Encouragement of the Horse (SOREC) and the Royal Moroccan Association of Purebred Arabian Horse Breeders.
The competition provides breeders with an opportunity to present horses representing carefully developed bloodlines. Beyond the competitive aspect, it highlights the work involved in maintaining breed characteristics while pursuing genetic improvement.
For Morocco’s breeders, such events also offer an international window into the country's breeding programs and the expertise developed around Purebred Arabian horses.
International field gathers for the Arabian Title Show
The program also features the International Arabian Horse Model and Gait Competition, known as the “Title Show.”
The event brings together champion horses from Morocco, Europe and the Middle East, giving the competition a distinctly international dimension. Its recognition at the highest level of the European Conference of Arab Horse Organizations (ECAHO) further underlines its standing within the international Arabian horse circuit.
The competition focuses on the physical qualities and movement of the horses, turning the show ring into a meeting point for breeders and specialists from different equestrian markets.
Arabian-Barb horses reflect Morocco’s breeding tradition
The third competition focuses on the Arabian-Barb, a breed resulting from the combination of Arabian and Barb bloodlines.
The Champions’ Cup for Arabian-Barb Horses is designed to showcase animals that embody characteristics associated with both traditions. Strength, endurance and versatility are among the qualities that have contributed to the breed's place in Morocco's equestrian landscape.
By giving the Arabian-Barb its own competitive platform, the El Jadida event also draws attention to a breed closely connected with the country's breeding history.
The Barb horse takes the spotlight
The fourth competition is dedicated to the Barb horse, widely regarded as Morocco's national horse.
Judges assess competitors according to several criteria, including conformation, movement, balance, power and overall elegance. The competition therefore combines traditional appreciation of the breed with formal standards used in modern equestrian judging.
The Barb occupies a distinctive position in North African equestrian culture, and its presence at the El Jadida Horse Show provides an opportunity to highlight both its historical importance and its continuing role within contemporary breeding.
A platform for Morocco’s equine sector
Taken together, the four competitions give the El Jadida Horse Show a role that extends beyond sporting entertainment. They provide breeders with a venue to promote their work, compare bloodlines and engage with professionals from international markets.
The event also contributes to the visibility of Morocco’s equestrian sector by placing Arabian, Arabian-Barb and Barb horses within an international competitive environment.
As the Moroccan horse industry seeks to preserve its traditional breeds while improving breeding standards and international recognition, the El Jadida Horse Show serves as a meeting point between heritage and modern equestrian development.
The 17th edition thus reinforces the event’s position as one of Morocco’s major showcases for the horse sector, with breeding excellence, genetic preservation and the international promotion of Moroccan equestrian heritage at its core.
