Casablanca wholesale market sees beef prices rise as vegetable prices diverge
Wholesale food prices in Casablanca showed mixed movements during the week of September 16, 2026, with beef becoming more expensive at the upper end of the market while sheep meat recorded a modest decline.
The latest weekly price note published by Casablanca Prestations also points to contrasting trends across vegetables, with onions, cucumbers and eggplants moving higher while carrots became slightly cheaper. Fruit prices remained broadly stable, although oranges registered a notable increase.
Beef prices climb at the top end
The red meat market recorded divergent movements this week.
Wholesale beef prices now range from 76 to 110 dirhams per kilogram. The lower end of the range remained unchanged, while the maximum price increased from 105 to 110 dirhams.
Sheep meat moved in the opposite direction. Both the minimum and maximum wholesale prices fell by 5 dirhams, bringing the range down from 125–130 dirhams per kilogram to 120–125 dirhams.
The contrasting movements underline the uneven evolution of red meat prices in Casablanca's wholesale market.
Vegetable prices show mixed movements
Vegetable prices were more varied, with several products recording increases while others remained stable or declined.
Tomato prices edged upward at the top of the range. The wholesale price moved from 2–4.5 dirhams per kilogram to 2–5 dirhams.
Carrots followed the opposite trend, with their maximum price falling by 50 centimes. They are now traded between 1.5 and 3.5 dirhams per kilogram.
Onions recorded increases in both categories listed in the weekly note. Fresh onions are priced between 2.5 and 4 dirhams per kilogram, while dry onions range from 3 to 4.8 dirhams.
Cucumbers posted one of the week's more noticeable increases, rising by 1.5 dirhams to reach a range of 3 to 6 dirhams per kilogram. Eggplants also became more expensive, with prices ranging from 1.5 to 5.5 dirhams.
Meanwhile, potatoes remained unchanged at 3–5.5 dirhams per kilogram. Cauliflower prices were also stable, ranging from 1.5 to 3 dirhams.
Fruit market remains largely steady
The fruit segment was comparatively stable, with most products maintaining their previous prices.
Avocados reached a maximum wholesale price of 35 dirhams per kilogram. Imported bananas remained at 14 dirhams per kilogram, compared with 11 dirhams for locally produced bananas.
Grapes held steady at 8.5 dirhams per kilogram, while peaches remained at 11 dirhams.
Oranges were the main exception, with their price rising from 4.8 to 6 dirhams per kilogram.
Apple prices showed no change. Local varieties remained at 9 dirhams per kilogram, while imported apples were priced at 22 dirhams.
A week marked by uneven price pressures
The Casablanca wholesale market entered the second half of September with no single direction across food categories.
Beef and several vegetables recorded upward movements, while sheep meat and carrots became cheaper. Fruit prices, meanwhile, were broadly unchanged apart from the increase recorded for oranges.
The weekly figures provide a snapshot of wholesale market conditions in Casablanca as of September 16 and show how individual products can follow different price trajectories within the same period.
