Cooler Temperatures and Rain Forecast for Morocco This Week

Morocco is set to experience a shift in weather conditions this week, with cooler temperatures and rain expected across several provinces. This change is due to a low-pressure system moving in from the north, bringing cold air and moisture from the upper atmosphere. According to El Houssain Youabed, Head of Communication at the National Meteorological Directorate, this shift will begin on Wednesday, ushering in cooler temperatures and wet weather, particularly in northern regions.

Rain is expected to fall across the northern plains, and daytime temperatures are likely to drop significantly. Youabed also noted that strong winds may affect the central coast, with more significant rainfall anticipated in the extreme northwest of the country on Thursday. As for today, most regions are experiencing stable weather, with overcast skies and light rain possible in the northern parts of the Eastern region.

On Tuesday, the weather will cool further, with cold temperatures in the Atlas Mountains, Rif, and high eastern regions, particularly in the morning. Low clouds and fog are also expected along the Atlantic coast and western plains. Winds are expected to be strong along the central coast and in northern parts of the southern provinces, and sandstorms may occur in desert areas. Nighttime temperatures will range from 0°C to 6°C in the Atlas, Rif, and eastern highlands, while the southern regions and Souss will see temperatures between 12°C and 16°C. Other areas will experience temperatures from 6°C to 13°C.

Despite rainfall last month, it was quickly followed by a spell of hot weather. The return of cooler temperatures and rain brings hope for more substantial rainfall, which is crucial for alleviating the ongoing drought concerns in Morocco. The limited rainfall this year has raised concerns, particularly in the agriculture sector, and many are hoping for more significant rainfall to address the water shortage.
