Amazon to drastically reduce packages sent via U.S. Postal Service
Amazon.com Inc. is planning a major reduction in the number of packages it ships through the U.S. Postal Service, according to reports from the Wall Street Journal. The move, expected to cut postal shipments by at least two-thirds, could result in significant revenue losses for the Postal Service, which has long relied on Amazon as one of its top customers.
The e-commerce giant’s decision comes as it prepares to optimize operations and leverage artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. The reduction in postal shipments is anticipated to take effect by this fall, coinciding with the expiration of Amazon’s current contract with the U.S. Postal Service.
Analysts say the shift reflects broader efforts by Amazon to streamline delivery logistics, reduce costs, and focus on in-house fulfillment channels. The company also recently announced plans to reduce its global corporate workforce by up to 14,000 employees.
