Decomposed body found near Grenoble prompts investigation
An investigation has been opened after the discovery of a severely decomposed body near Grenoble in southeastern France, authorities confirmed on Sunday.
The remains were found on Saturday around midday by hikers in the commune of Proveysieux, located in the Chartreuse Mountains. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, investigators were initially unable to determine the gender or identity of the deceased.
Local prosecutors stated that a formal inquiry has been launched to determine the cause of death. The investigation has been assigned to specialized units from Grenoble’s criminal and research divisions.
An autopsy was scheduled to take place on Sunday in order to gather further forensic evidence that could help clarify the circumstances surrounding the death. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the body shows signs of violence or whether any objects were found at the scene.
The discovery has prompted concern in the region, although officials have emphasized that it is too early to draw conclusions. Investigators are currently exploring all possible scenarios, including accidental death, criminal involvement, or disappearance cases linked to the area.
Further updates are expected once forensic results become available.
