André Azoulay highlights Morocco’s culture of coexistence at SIEL 2026
During the 2026 edition of the Salon International de l’Édition et du Livre 2026 in Rabat, André Azoulay emphasized Morocco’s role as an international model of coexistence and intercultural dialogue.
Speaking at a conference dedicated to “Morocco and the genius of living together,” Azoulay described the Kingdom as a nation that continues to promote tolerance, openness, and respect for diversity in a world increasingly marked by tensions and social fragmentation.
He stated that Morocco’s social model is rooted in a long historical tradition where different cultures, religions, and communities have coexisted for centuries. According to him, this heritage remains alive through the values shared by Moroccan society today.
Azoulay also referred to the concept of “Tamaghrabit,” presenting it as a deeply rooted civilizational identity that reflects Morocco’s pluralistic character and historical continuity. He argued that this spirit of coexistence could serve as an inspiring example for other societies facing growing divisions.
The conference further highlighted the legacy of Ibn Battuta, whose journeys and writings symbolized dialogue between civilizations and openness to different cultures. His contribution was presented as part of Morocco’s historical tradition of exchange and discovery.
Representatives from religious and academic institutions also praised Morocco’s approach to interfaith dialogue and peaceful coexistence. Speakers underlined the role played by the Kingdom in promoting moderation, cultural understanding, and mutual respect at both regional and international levels.
The discussions additionally addressed modern global challenges such as environmental issues, technological change, and artificial intelligence, stressing the importance of wisdom and ethical responsibility in responding to these transformations.
The event reflects Morocco’s ongoing efforts to position culture and dialogue as essential tools for social cohesion and international cooperation.
