Ali Fassi Fihri passes away: Morocco loses a dedicated public servant
Morocco is mourning the loss of Ali Fassi Fihri, former Director General of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), who passed away at the age of 71 after a long illness, according to information shared by his family.
Widely respected in Morocco’s administrative and institutional circles, Ali Fassi Fihri dedicated decades of his career to serving the country through several strategic positions linked to infrastructure, energy, and public governance.
Born in the city of Kenitra, he became one of the leading figures behind the modernization of Morocco’s electricity and water sectors. During his tenure at ONEE, he contributed to major projects aimed at improving public infrastructure and strengthening the Kingdom’s energy and water networks.
His expertise in management and institutional development also led him to hold important leadership roles in major Moroccan organizations. He notably chaired the supervisory board of MASEN, a central actor in Morocco’s renewable energy strategy, and served on the board of LafargeHolcim Maroc.
A significant role in Moroccan Football
Beyond his responsibilities in the industrial and public sectors, Ali Fassi Fihri also played a major role in Moroccan sports. As president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, he oversaw an important phase in the restructuring and professionalization of national football institutions.
His leadership period is remembered as a stage that helped lay the foundations for the development and modernization of Moroccan football governance.
