Afcon 2025: Morocco bets on sustainable, multimodal and smart mobility

As the kickoff of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 approaches, mobility has emerged as a central pillar of Morocco’s preparations. Beyond logistical requirements, transport solutions are being designed to ensure smooth, efficient and environmentally responsible movement for both local and international supporters.

Morocco has been investing for years in reshaping its transport networks, and the upcoming continental tournament is accelerating this transformation. Host cities are progressively adopting integrated mobility systems that combine tramways, high-capacity bus corridors, upgraded road infrastructure and optimized traffic management around stadiums.

The expansion of tramway networks, particularly in Casablanca and Rabat-Salé, illustrates this long-term strategy. These systems are intended not only to serve visitors during the tournament but also to strengthen everyday urban mobility for residents, supporting population growth and environmental objectives.

Public transport modernization is another key element. National programs are mobilizing thousands of new buses over the coming years, including a dedicated fleet to provide shuttle services during AFCON 2025. This approach aims to meet peak demand while ensuring the long-term viability and operational efficiency of transport services.

Intercity mobility also plays a decisive role. Morocco benefits from a well-developed network of highways, railways and airports that facilitates travel between host cities. This connectivity is expected to encourage domestic tourism and distribute the economic benefits of the competition across multiple regions.

Technology and digital innovation are increasingly shaping mobility solutions. The introduction of low-emission vehicles, smart traffic systems, real-time passenger information and predictive maintenance tools is improving service quality while reducing environmental impact. Digital platforms integrating different modes of transport are also simplifying journey planning and payment for users.

With AFCON 2025, Morocco is positioning mobility as a catalyst for urban competitiveness, sustainability and innovation. The tournament is seen not as a temporary challenge, but as an opportunity to establish a lasting, integrated transport model aligned with the country’s long-term development goals.
