6 magnitude earthquake shakes Japan’s Volcano Islands
A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck Japan’s Volcano Islands early Monday, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences. The quake occurred at a shallow depth of 20 kilometers (12 miles) in the North Pacific Ocean, approximately 283 kilometers (176 miles) from the Northern Mariana Islands.
Authorities reported no damage or casualties following the seismic event. The epicenter was located at 23.12 degrees north latitude and 144.30 degrees east longitude.
Despite its strength, the earthquake did not trigger any tsunami warnings, and local monitoring agencies continue to observe the area for aftershocks. Seismologists note that earthquakes in this region are relatively common due to the tectonic activity around the Pacific Ring of Fire.
