LafargeHolcim Morocco and Tibu Africa Launch Innovative Sports Education Program in Oujda Schools
In a significant move towards educational transformation, LafargeHolcim Morocco and Tibu Africa have unveiled a groundbreaking sports education program for primary school students in Oujda. The initiative, launched on December 24, 2024, combines sports, technology, and personal development to create a comprehensive educational experience.
The program's inauguration, attended by local authorities and key educational stakeholders, marks a strategic collaboration aimed at equipping children with essential tools for a promising future. Through the company's CSR program "N'BNIOUW L'7AYAT," LafargeHolcim Morocco has already demonstrated substantial commitment to education, benefiting over 14,000 students near their operational sites in 2023 through various initiatives including school supply distribution and digital classroom creation.
Zineb BENNOUNA, Communication & CSR Director at LafargeHolcim Morocco, emphasized the company's dedication to sustainable youth development in the Oriental region, positioning sports as a gateway to quality education and human development. Chakib EL OUDGHIRI, Director of LafargeHolcim Morocco's Oujda plant, highlighted the facility's role in local development, particularly in addressing employability, health, and education challenges.
Mohamed Amine Zariat, President of Tibu Africa and Ashoka Fellow, described the partnership as a targeted response to youth and community needs, emphasizing sport's role in social and educational transformation.
The program rests on three fundamental pillars:
- Academic Success Enhancement: Through integrated technology, educational workshops, and sports activities
- Life Skills Development: Focusing on STEM subjects, robotics, and team sports to improve communication and problem-solving abilities
- Health and Wellness Promotion: Regular sports activities to develop physical and socio-emotional skills
The initiative extends beyond the classroom, incorporating family engagement through positive education workshops to foster a supportive community environment. Aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Health and Well-being) and 4 (Quality Education), the partnership exemplifies sport's transformative impact on education and social inclusion.
LafargeHolcim Morocco, the country's primary construction materials manufacturer and leading industrial entity on the Casablanca Stock Exchange, brings its extensive expertise to this initiative. The company, jointly owned by Holcim Group and Al Mada investment fund, has maintained a presence in Morocco since 1928, consistently contributing to the nation's economic and social development.
Similarly, Tibu Africa, as an innovative Moroccan NGO, has established itself as a crucial player in using sports for social inclusion, education, and empowerment of youth and women across Africa, making this partnership a natural extension of both organizations' commitment to social development through education.
