Morocco edges past Philippines to keep Women’s Futsal World Cup dreams alive

The Moroccan women’s futsal team secured a crucial 3-2 victory over the Philippines in the second round of the FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup 2025 group stage. The match, held on Monday in Pasig City, Philippines, marked a strong comeback for Morocco following their opening-day loss to Argentina.

Goals from Nadia Lafath, Souhaib Tedlaoui, and Jasmine Damrawi sealed the win for Morocco, despite a late surge from the host nation. With this result, Morocco now sits third in Group A with three points, while the Philippines remain at the bottom with no wins.

This tournament is Morocco’s debut in the Women’s Futsal World Cup, reflecting the country’s increased emphasis on developing women’s sports. The Royal Moroccan Football Federation has expanded its investment in women’s football and futsal, paving the way for international competitiveness. The victory against the Philippines highlights Morocco’s growing potential on the global stage.

Morocco’s final group-stage match against Poland on November 27 will be decisive. Poland, currently second in Group A with four points, poses a significant challenge after drawing with Argentina and defeating the Philippines. Morocco, with three points, must win to secure their place in the knockout stage. A draw or loss could leave their advancement reliant on other group results.
