Morocco's Oukaïmeden Ski Resort Undergoes 378 Million Dirham Transformation

The Moroccan mountain resort of Oukaïmeden is set for a comprehensive modernization initiative, following a high-level meeting of officials at the Al Haouz provincial headquarters. The ambitious project, combining infrastructure upgrades and tourism enhancement, represents a total investment of 378.34 million dirhams.

Under the chairmanship of Al Haouz Provincial Governor Rachid Benchikh, officials reviewed progress on multiple development fronts. A significant portion of the project focuses on improving accessibility, with major upgrades planned for Regional Road 2030 connecting Aghbalo to Oukaïmeden, and Regional Road 2017 linking Ourika to Regional Road 2030. The infrastructure improvements will also include two 11-kilometer cycling paths and enhanced road intersections, with completion targeted for June 2025 at a cost of 148.34 million dirhams.

The resort's transformation encompasses a two-phase development plan valued at 230 million dirhams. The initial phase prioritizes fundamental improvements, including management restructuring, technical equipment upgrades, infrastructure renewal, and enhanced snow safety measures. The second phase focuses on expanding the resort's appeal through luxury amenities, including a panoramic restaurant atop Mount Oukaïmeden and high-end cabin accommodations.

This comprehensive initiative represents a collaborative effort between multiple government entities, including the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Equipment and Transportation, the Moroccan Agency for Tourism Engineering, and the Marrakech-Safi Regional Council. The project aims to elevate Oukaïmeden to international standards while promoting sustainable tourism development in the region.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders from regional and local government agencies, including representatives from the Marrakech-Safi region and the Al Haouz Provincial Council. Participants underscored the importance of coordinated implementation to ensure timely completion and alignment with broader tourism development goals.
