Meloni government faces growing discontent among young Italian voters
Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and her right-wing coalition are reportedly facing declining support among younger voters, a trend that could become politically significant ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to polling data cited by UTRed, support for Meloni’s coalition has fallen below 30% among voters under 35, while the opposition is reportedly attracting close to 50% of this age group. The figures represent a significant change compared with the political landscape of 2023.
Economic concerns appear to be one of the main factors behind the growing dissatisfaction. Italy continues to face challenges related to youth employment and wages, with young graduates often finding better professional opportunities abroad. The resulting migration of young Italians has become a major concern for the country’s long-term economic and demographic outlook.
The government has also faced criticism over measures affecting young people, including tougher policies targeting illegal parties and the production of low-THC cannabis products. Changes to juvenile justice and restrictions surrounding sex education in schools have also generated debate.
At the same time, recent voting patterns suggest that young Italians could play an increasingly important role in future elections. A March referendum reportedly recorded strong youth participation, demonstrating that younger voters are capable of mobilizing when political issues directly affect their interests.
With the 2027 election approaching, the government’s ability to address employment, wages, education and opportunities for younger generations could prove crucial. The emergence of political movements seeking to attract dissatisfied young voters could further reshape Italy’s electoral landscape.
