A severe weather system is set to impact several provinces from Sunday through Wednesday, according to the latest weather alert issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM). This system will bring a combination of snowfall, a cold wave, and localized thunderstorms. With a vigilance level of "orange," the forecast predicts significant weather events that may disrupt normal conditions across various regions.

Snowfall and Cold Wave:

The snowfall is expected to be particularly intense in higher altitudes, exceeding 1800 meters, where accumulations could reach between 15 to 35 cm. Affected provinces include Azilal, Tinghir, Al Haouz, and Ouarzazate, where these snowfalls are expected on Sunday and Monday. For other regions at lower altitudes, a lighter snowfall between 5 to 10 cm is anticipated during the same period. These lighter snowfalls will affect the provinces of Midelt, Taroudant, Beni Mellal, and Ifrane.

Additionally, temperatures are expected to drop significantly. Minimum temperatures will range from -5°C to 1°C, while maximum temperatures are expected to stay between 4°C and 10°C. These frigid conditions are forecasted for the provinces of Boulemane, Midelt, Ifrane, Beni Mellal, Azilal, Al Haouz, Tinghir, Figuig, and Ouarzazate.

Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain:

As the cold front moves through, thunderstorms are also predicted, with heavy rainfall in certain areas. From Sunday afternoon (3 PM) to evening (11 PM), provinces including Youssoufia, Rehamna, Marrakech, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Chichaoua, Settat, Khouribga, Benslimane, and Fquih Ben Salah could experience intense rainfall, with accumulations between 15 and 30 mm.

Impact and Preparedness:

Given the severity of these weather conditions, residents and travelers are urged to take necessary precautions. The combination of snow, freezing temperatures, and heavy rain could lead to disruptions in transportation and daily activities. It is essential to stay informed about any updates from local authorities and to avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas.

In conclusion, the weather outlook for the coming days signals significant challenges, with the risk of road closures, power outages, and possible damage to infrastructure in affected provinces. Authorities have urged heightened vigilance, especially in high-altitude regions, where snow and cold are expected to have a major impact.
