WHO condemns attacks on health facilities in Lebanon
The World Health Organization (WHO) has strongly condemned recent attacks on healthcare facilities in southern Lebanon, calling for an immediate halt to all such actions.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus emphasized that medical infrastructure and personnel must be protected under international humanitarian law. In a public statement, he warned that targeting health services risks becoming a dangerous precedent if not addressed urgently.
Recent incidents have reportedly included strikes affecting ambulances and emergency response teams, resulting in casualties among medical staff. According to local health authorities, dozens of healthcare workers have been killed since the escalation of hostilities, raising serious concerns about the safety of frontline responders.
The WHO reiterated that healthcare workers play a vital role in saving lives during conflicts and must not be exposed to violence. The organization urged all parties involved to respect international rules designed to safeguard civilians and essential services.
