Shakira recalls unforgettable moments from the 2026 World Cup experience
Colombian superstar Shakira has looked back on her experience at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the tournament as a unique moment filled with unforgettable memories, from her halftime performance to the worldwide success of the official anthem.
Speaking to People, the singer said the competition was “special” for many reasons after taking the stage during the halftime show of the World Cup final on July 19, which saw Spain face Argentina.
One of the highlights for Shakira was the global response to “Dai Dai”, the official tournament song she co-wrote and performed with Nigerian artist Burna Boy. The Colombian artist said she was particularly moved by the way the song brought people together and inspired celebrations around the world.
The track quickly became associated with the festive atmosphere of the tournament, with fans creating choreographies and sharing performances that helped turn the anthem into one of the event’s cultural symbols.
Beyond music, Shakira also praised several football stories that marked the competition. She highlighted the rise of Josimar Dia, known as Vozinha, the Cape Verde goalkeeper whose performances made him a national hero.
The singer also mentioned her friendship with Lionel Messi and his journey with Argentina during the tournament. Although the Argentine team fell short in the final, Messi remained one of the central figures of the competition, while Kylian Mbappé surpassed him in the World Cup’s all-time goalscoring record during the 2026 edition.
After the excitement of the tournament, Shakira is now preparing to return to her artistic projects, while leaving open the possibility of another collaboration with football’s biggest stage in the future.
With several World Cup performances already behind her, the Colombian singer has become one of the most recognizable artists associated with FIFA’s global football celebrations.
