Water supply disruption affects operations at London Gatwick Airport
Passengers traveling through London Gatwick Airport experienced operational disruptions on Sunday after a power outage at a nearby water treatment facility interrupted water supplies across the airport.
The incident affected both passenger terminals, prompting airport authorities to activate contingency plans aimed at minimizing inconvenience while maintaining essential services.
Airport implements emergency measures
According to airport officials, the interruption in water service impacted several facilities throughout the airport. Emergency measures were introduced, including the distribution of bottled water to travelers and staff as teams worked to manage the situation.
Authorities said additional operational procedures were being implemented to support passenger welfare while the water supply issue was being addressed.
Facilities temporarily affected
Travelers reported that the disruption led to temporary difficulties with restroom facilities, while a number of restaurants and bars inside the airport were forced to suspend operations because of the lack of running water.
Despite these challenges, airport authorities continued to monitor the situation and coordinate with local service providers to restore normal conditions as quickly as possible.
Power outage identified as the cause
Officials linked the disruption to a power failure at a nearby water treatment works, which interrupted the supply feeding the airport's infrastructure.
Gatwick, the United Kingdom's second-busiest airport after Heathrow, serves millions of passengers each year and is a major hub for domestic and international travel. Even localized infrastructure failures can therefore have a significant impact on airport services and passenger experience.
Airport management advised travelers to follow official updates while restoration efforts continued and contingency measures remained in place.
