Strategic aerospace, defense and research facilities located around Bordeaux have been placed under heightened monitoring as major wildfires continue to spread across southwestern France, raising concerns over the safety of sensitive industrial sites.

The fires, which have affected areas around the Arcachon Basin, have moved closer to the western outskirts of the Bordeaux metropolitan area, putting several technology and defense-related facilities under increased surveillance.

Critical industrial sites exposed to wildfire threat

France’s Ministry of the Armed Forces said that specialized personnel and additional resources had been deployed to help protect sensitive industrial locations.
